Wolvercote Hub Opens as New Community Space in Oxford

The much-loved Wolvercote Young People’s Club venue is being relaunched as The Wolvercote Hub, with a new mission to provide a safe, welcoming, and accessible space where people of all ages and backgrounds can connect, learn, and thrive.

Based on St Peter’s Road, the Wolvercote Young People’s Club has a rich history of youth engagement and local connection, and will remain at the heart of the Wolvercote Hub, but the venue is being reimagined as a future hub where creativity, wellbeing, and community spirit will thrive under one roof.

With a new name, a fresh logo, an updated online presence and a Big Hub Launch event on 25th June as part of the Wolvercote and Wytham Midsummer Festival, The Wolvercote Hub is set to become a beating heart for Wolvercote life and the surrounding community.

Val Tate, Chair of the Wolvercote Hub, says:

“From workshops and social events to intergenerational activities, the building’s legacy will be blended with fresh energy and purpose. It already offers good value-for-money spaces – a lounge, media suite, classroom, sports hall, and outdoor sports court – something for any activity, from an antenatal group to a Pilates class, from a support group to a seniors’ social club, and parties, workshops, and events.

“We are also in the early stages of consultation and planning for the redevelopment of the site to improve our offering further.  We very much want the community to be involved in shaping its future.  The project reflects a shared ambition: to create a space that inspires connection, sparks opportunity, and strengthens local pride.  These are exciting times!

“There are also lots of other ways for the community to get involved. We would love to hear from those who have a skill they would like to share, or have some time to help with anything, from gardening to volunteering or trustee opportunities. Donations to support club resourcing or materials are much appreciated.”

To kick things off, Wolvercote writer and theatre community pillar, Dr Carol Peaker has created an incredible Performance Project for 14-19 year olds where in each session, young people focus on a different performance skill, such as skits, hip-hop dance, spoken word, music, and storytelling through movement, culminating in a performance at the Wolvercote & Wytham Midsummer Festival on 25th June.

The new programme at the Wolvercote Hub is based on a three-pronged strategy:

Start Well – Aimed at hosting early years support and family provisions. Live Well – Creating space for health and physical and mental wellbeing activities for all. Age Well – Promoting active ageing & community connection to reduce isolation and increase wellbeing.
