Yarmouth (Oxford Daily) October 20, 2026 – Trainer Kevin Philippart De Foy admitted to a palpable sense of relief after his €3,000,000 newcomer Marylebone made a winning start to her career at Yarmouth on Tuesday.
The two-year-old filly, owned by Kia Joorabchian’s Amo Racing operation, came through a challenging environment to secure victory on her debut in the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes over eight furlongs.
How Did Marylebone Perform on Her Racecourse Debut?
As reported by the Oxford Mail sports department, trainer Kevin Philippart De Foy expressed the heavy sense of responsibility tied to managing such a high-profile horse.
He stated: “She’s done everything right and hit the line very well”.
Philippart De Foy further commented: “She’s a lovely filly to look forward to. These were not easy conditions to make her debut in and like all my horses, she hasn’t been off the bridle at home”.
The trainer highlighted that the filly had not been pushed hard during home routine work.
He added: “She’ll have learned plenty and hopefully she can have a nice winter and she’s one to look forward to next year. It’s a relief because it’s a great family so there was a bit of pressure on”.
What Were the Tactical Decisions Made During the Race?
Ridden by jockey David Egan, Marylebone was handled with caution in testing coastal winds. Following the withdrawal of anticipated contender Usaylah, race tactics shifted significantly prior to the start.
As reported by Racing Post bloodstock writer Martin Stevens, bloodstock agent Alex Elliott had previously noted after purchasing the filly for €3m at the Arqana August Sale: “She’s actually priceless. For somebody like Kia, we’re trying to create a dynasty and you’ve got to start with those sorts of horses”.
Jockey David Egan spoke to Sky Sports Racing regarding his tactical approach during the race.
He stated: “She had to dig in, I thought Rossa (Ryan) got it very easy in front as when the other horse (Usaylah) got withdrawn I thought those two would make the running”.
Egan expanded on his decision not to force the pace under challenging atmospheric conditions.
He noted: “With it being a windy day I didn’t think it would be right first time out to go out and make the running. I pulled her out nice and early to get her out into her top stride and to be honest I was well on top at the line”.
Egan also reflected on how little the filly had been asked to do prior to her official debut.
He added: “I’ve only ridden her twice at home to be honest and while the vibes have always been good, she’d never had the gun put to her head and this is as much as she’s ever done. She’s come to a nice maiden at Yarmouth, because of her price tag a couple of people have asked how she’s been going and she’d been doing everything nice, but we’d never asked her a question so the fact she ticked the box today is really encouraging”.
What Is the Background of This Particular Development?
Marylebone’s debut victory represents the culmination of significant financial investment and pedigree planning by Amo Racing. Bred in France by Ecurie des Monceaux and Skymarc Farm, the daughter of champion sire Night Of Thunder out of the blue hen mare Prudenzia became the top lot at the Arqana August Yearling Sale in Deauville when bloodstock agent Alex Elliott secured her on behalf of Kia Joorabchian for €3,000,000.
The purchase was a headline transaction, setting a record price for that edition of the August Sale. As a half-sister to Group 1 winner Magic Wand and Classic winner Chicquita, Marylebone carries one of the most distinguished bloodlines in European thoroughbred racing. Her entry in the Irish 1,000 Guineas underlines the long-term classic ambitions held for her by the Amo Racing team.
What Is the Prediction for How This Development Affects the Target Audience?
This successful debut strongly impacts multiple key stakeholders within the thoroughbred industry and racing public:
- For Amo Racing and Investors: A debut victory at two years old validates the substantial financial outlay and protects the long-term commercial valuation of the filly, proving her racing ability alongside her intrinsic breeding potential.
- For Trainer Kevin Philippart De Foy: Managing a €3,000,000 yearling successfully elevates the stable’s reputation, demonstrating the yard’s capacity to handle top-tier, high-value bloodstock with patience and precision.
- For Racing Fans and Punters: Marylebone’s victorious start confirms her status as a genuine Classic prospect for next season, offering a compelling narrative to follow leading into the spring 1,000 Guineas trials.
