A couple from Romania – more specifically, a woman and a man – have been sentenced at the Oxford Crown Court to 17 years of jail each after committing manslaughter, robbery and poisoning.
The woman, identified as Adina Mihai – 31 years of age – and her partner, Mădălin Dumitru – 30 years of age – admitted in court to two crimes after in the period between August 2024 and July 2025 the two individuals co-worked to steal money and items from men lured by the woman.
The crimes that they admitted to were:
- manslaughter – Adina and Mădălin caused unintentionally the deaths of two men;
- poison administration – Adina and Mădălin poisoned four individuals with a dangerous chemical.
The scheme of the two thieves – also called the ‘honeytrap’ – entailed a simple yet effective elaborated plan. Firstly, the set-up for the theft involved the woman (Adina) to arrange a meeting with a man at his home, while the man (Mădălin) would drive his partner to the other man’s house. After Adina would enter the victim’s house, Mădălin would wait patiently outside in the car for his partner to deal with the victim. Inside the victim’s house, the woman (Adina) would utilise GBL (a dangerous chemical) and pour it into the men’s drink to send him into a very deep sleep that would give the thieves enough time to take their money and valuable items and flee.
Since the chemical used by the thieves to send their victims into deep sleep was dangerous and measured incorrectly, out of the four men that got poisoned in total, two of them died because of it. The two men that did not make it were Malcolm King – 80 years old – who died in August 2024 and Gary Mouat – 37 years old – who died in Banbury in July 2025.
In order to gather evidence for the investigation, the police utilised security camera videos and text messages that clearly proved what happened. One of the messages between Adina and Mădălin showed the man encouraging his partner to put a victim to sleep. Moreover, another piece of evidence was on their social media (TikTok) where they were found in one of Adina’s July 2025 videos to be on their way to Gary Mouat’s house (before the victim’s death) singing along to a song.
The judge condemned their actions and told the pair they were straight out careless, sentencing them each to 17 years in prison.
